Research

The aetiology of psychiatric disorders is complex, influenced by a wide range of genetic and environmental factors. Understanding the genetic overlap among psychiatric disorders, as well as how their genetic signal might relate to molecular phenotypes and endophenotypes, can provide important clues about their aetiology. To aid this goal, one of my projects has involved the development of a novel tool dedicated to local genetic correlation analysis, called LAVA, which can be used to test bivariate and multivariate genetic relations between traits. One of my main research interests concerns applying local genetic correlation analysis to investigate the genetic overlap between psychiatric disorders and endophenotypes with the purpose of elucidating the function of the genetic signals detected in genome-wide association studies for these disorders.
