Anouk de Weger performed her 2nd MSc internship (specialisation ‘Animal biology and disease models’ at Leiden University) within the team of Sabine Spijker, with Danai Riga and Maija Koskinen as her daily supervisors from September 2015 until June 2016. She contributed with her experiments to a manuscript that is now under revision and on which she is a co-author. Anouk analysed whether there was any change in terms of excitatory and inhibitory input on parvalbumin-positive interneurons in the hippocampus CA1 in rats that underwent the social defeat-induced persistent stress (SDPS) model of persistent depression. In addition she quantified perineuronal nets and analysed changes in glial cells in the mouse version of the SDPS model.
