My PhD project is a collaborative project between two research teams at the MCN lab, the ‘Brain plasticity in Health and Disease’- team of Ronald van Kesteren and the ‘Memory Circuits’-team of Michel van den Oever. The aim of my project is to shed light on the role of hippocampal inhibitory interneurons, specifically parvalbumin interneurons, in memory engrams. More precisely, I will investigate how the dysfunction of these interneurons is linked to the cellular mechanisms of memory processing and of memory decline as seen in Alzheimer’s disease.
I have a background in Fundamental Neuroscience, which I studied at the Maastricht University in the Netherlands. As part of this master’s, I did an internship in the Alzheimer’s group at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.
